Step 1: Speak English a lot
Speak loudly in words in a book or a magazine. This may be fun, but there is a reality that is the louder one person speaks, the clearer he hears his voice and then he can recognize his mistakes better. Learners also can use a recorder to record what they speak and then listen to the recorder again to find the mistakes of pronunciation and correct pronunciation next time.
Example in a paragraph: “In a city of secret economies, few are as vital to the life of New York as the business of nannies, the legions of women who emancipate high-powered professionals and less glamorous working parents from the duties of daily child care”. You speak this paragraph 3 times, then the third time you will find that the words in this paragraph that is pronounced better and more clearly.
Step 2: Listen and Repeat
Listen to the paragraphs that are spoken specifically. There is a lot of CD disc and programs of training English that include English chat texts that you can speak and listen at the same time. Listen and speak at the same time to pronounce specifically all words in texts. When CD or DVD disc is turned on, let’s speak out the words that are spoken by the speaker of the CD to learn how to pronounce them exactly.
Step 3: Practice Speaking English A LoneĀ
Speak in front of a mirror because speaking English makes the mouth of a person moving in particular ways. Speaking in front of a mirror can help a person develop correct movements of tongue, lips, and jaw.
Example:
– Vowels: put the tongue in the middle of the mouth and don’t touch anything in the mouth
– Consonants: 3 groups:
+ Lips: in order to pronounce, 2 lips have to join together such as: “M”, “B”, “P” or upper lip touch teeth such as: “V”, “F”
+ Behind the teeth: tongue touches the back roof of the mouth such as: “N”, “L”, “D”…
+ Throat: sounds move from the throat (When pronouncing, you feel the throat vibrating) such as: “H”, “K”…
Spend some minutes every day to practice pronouncing words, then sentences, then paragraphs.
Step 4: Asking for advice
Ask a native English speaker for listening to you while you are speaking. Do what the native English speaker directs you. The best way is to require an English native speaker to correct your sentence, a sentence by a sentence so that you can correct mistakes of pronunciation at that time. If you can’t find an English native speaker, you can ask an English teacher or your friend whose English is better than you for help. You will find that asking people for listening to you is very necessary.
